Cardinal Juan Luis Cipriani says popes' words are part of "the heritage of the faith"

One of Peru's main newspapers says it will not publish any more articles by Lima's Roman Catholic archbishop, Cardinal Juan Luis Cipriani. 페루의 한 주요한 신문사 <엘 꼬메르시오(El Comercio)>는 리마의 가톨릭 교회 대주교 환 루이 치프리아니의 글을 더 이상 게제하지 않을 것이라고 밝혔다.

El Comercio made the decision after it was disclosed that Cardinal Cipriani had used the writings of former popes without attributing them. 이런 결정을 내린 이유는 치프리아니 추기경이 글을 쓰면서 역대 교황들을 언급함 없이 그들의 글을 임의로 인용해왔음을 발견했기 때문이다.

The newspaper said it had been proven that he had plagiarised Pope Benedict XVI and Pope Paul VI. 이 신문에 의하면, 치프리아니 추기경은 교황 베네딕도 16세와 교황 바오로 6세의 글을 표절해왔다는 것을 확인했다고 한다.

The prelate apologised to his followers for not having mentioned his sources. 이 추기경은 글의 출처를 밝히지 않는 사실에 대해 사과를 했다.

"All my teachings come from the pontiffs of the Church," he said. "I would constantly have to say: as Pope so and so said..." 모든 나의 가르침은 교회의 역대 교황들에게서 나온다. 나는 늘 교황 누구 누구라고 말했어야 했다."

Cardinal Cipriani added that popes had no property rights over their words, as they were part of the heritage of the faith.

Last week a Peruvian website, Utero.pe, accused Lima's archbishop of including six paragraphs from the book Communio by Pope Benedict (then Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger) and parts of the Ecclesiam suam, an encyclical by Pope Paul VI, in his editorials for El Comercio.

Following the revelation, the newspaper deleted two articles by the cardinal and said it would not publish him again.
