Typhoon Rammasun: Monster storm buffets south China 태풍 람마순은 남중국을 뒤흔든 괴물 폭풍

The biggest typhoon to hit southern China in 40 years has killed 17 people, after wreaking death and destruction on the Philippines. 40년 만에 남중국을 들이친 최대 태풍은 필리핀에서 사망과 파괴를 자행한 끝에 17명의 사망자를 냈다.

Typhoon Rammasun killed at least eight people on the island of Hainan, with others missing, and nine in the Guangxi region, state media say. 태풍 람마순으로 인해, 섬인 중국 하이난(海南)省에서 최소한 8명이 목숨을 잃고 실종자들도 발생했으며, 광시성에선 9명이 사망했다고, 관영 신화사는 밝혔다..

It made landfall on Friday with winds exceeding 200km/h (124mph). 이 태풍은 최대 시속 200키로의 강한 바람과 함께 금요일 들이닥쳤다.

At least 94 people were killed when Rammasun ravaged the northern Philippines earlier this week. 람마순이 이번 주 초반 필리핀 북부를 강타했을 때 최소한 94명이 목숨을 잃었다.

The storm is also affecting Vietnam, where heavy rain is expected before it starts to weaken on Monday. 이 태풍은 월요일 태풍이 약해지기 전 폭우가 예상되었던 베트남에도 영향을 미쳤다. 

Air, rail and road traffic was suspended in parts of China while TV channels showed roads littered with debris including uprooted trees and rooftops. 항공편과 열차편 육로 모두 중국 일부지역에선 연기되었다. 그리고 티브에선 뿌리가 뽑혀서 거꾸로 서 있는 나무들과 쓰레기더미들로 아수라장이 된 도로를 보여주었다.

On Hainan, another source gave the death toll as 18 while the number of people missing is said to be between two and five. 하이난에선, 또 다른 소식통이 알려준 바에 의하면, 사망자가 18명이고, 실종자는 2명에서 5명 사이라고 한다.

It is the strongest typhoon experienced by southern China since the 1973 typhoon season, the country's Meteorological Administration said on its website. 이번 태풍 람마순은 1973년 이래 남중국 지역에서 경험한 최악의 태풍이라고 중국 기상청은 자사 웹사이트에서 밝혔다.

That year's Super-Typhoon Nora had maximum winds of 295km/h although it had weakened by the time it made landfall. 그 해 슈퍼태풍 노라는 육지에 도착할 무렵 많이 약화된 상태였으나 최대시속 295키로의 강풍을 동반했다.

Most of the people killed in the Philippines were hit by falling debris and trees, disaster officials said, while some of six people reported missing had been at sea on boats. 필리핀에서 사망한 사람들은 대부분 떨어지는 쓰레기더미나 나무들에 치어죽은 경우고, 그 밖에 실종자 6명 가량은 사고당시 보트를 타고 바다에 있었고 재난구호 담당자들은 말했다. 

The typhoon prompted mass evacuations, flooding and power cuts, as Alpa Patel reports 알파 파텔은 이번 태풍으로 많은 사람들이 대피를 했으며 침수가 발생했고 정전이 발생했다고 전한다.

A new typhoon, Matmo, with maximum winds of 150km/h, is now threatening the area ravaged by Rammasun, Philippine National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council spokeswoman Mina Marasigan told AFP news agency. 최대시속 150키로의 강풍을 동반하는 다음 태풍 마트모는 이미 람마순이 할퀴고 지나간 지역을 지금 다시 위협하고 있다고, 필리핀 국가재난위험 감소운영위원회 대변인 미나 마라시간은 에이에프피 통신에 말했다.

About 20 major storms hit the Philippines a year, AFP adds. The south-east Asian country often bears the brunt of the storms, which mass above the warm Pacific Ocean waters. 매년 약 20 여개의 폭풍이 필리핀을 덮친다고 에이에프피는 덧붙였다. 남동아시아 국가는 따뜻한 태평양 바다위에 모이곤 하는 폭풍들의.큰 타격을 종종 입는다.
