論語 爲政 2-9

The Analects Weizheng 2-9

 

子曰(자왈), 吾與回(오여회), 言終日(언종일), 不違如愚(불위여우). 退而省其私(퇴이성기사), 亦足以發(역족이발), 回也不愚(회야불우).

*發: 발휘하다. 밝히다. to elucidate, to make sth clear, to explain.

 

The Master said, once I talked with Hui all day; he never contradicted me, as if stupid. When he left, I observed him in private and found that he was able to elucidate(=to make sth clear; to explain sth). Hui is not at all stupid.

 

내가 안회와 종일토록 말했는데 뜻이 서로 어긋나지 않아서 어리석은 사람같더니 물러간 뒤에 그의 사생활을 살펴보자 또한 내가 말한 바를 밝힐 수 있었으니 안회는 어리석지 않도다.

사생활/밝은하늘

남앞에서 보이는 말과 행동은 그를 속이기 쉬우나 자기 혼자 있을 때 행하는 말과 행동(사생활)은 그의 진면목을 보여준다. 남들을 만족시킬 것인가 자신을 만족시킬 것인가는 다 자신에게 달려있다.
